Team Function, Impact Matrix - Elisa MacDonald
Team Function, Impact Matrix - Elisa MacDonald
A principal recently reached out to tell me how my chapter "Don't Settle for High-Functioning Teams" was eye-opening for her leadership team. The matrix I created has helped many teams assess their collaboration and grow into what I call, a Quadrant 1 High-functioning High-impact team. I remember driving into work about to lead school coaches in our monthly PD about how to best support our teacher-led teams when a question that had been nagging me for years finally made sense. 🤔 How is it that a team can get along and get things done, but still have little to no impact on teacher practice and student learning? Influenced by the words of Jim Knight's 2011 groundbreaking book, Unmistakable Impact, it became clear to me back then that not all team leaders think about "impact". What was even more perplexing to me was: 🤔 🤔 How is it that a team who does NOT get along, who has group conflict and does not have psychological safety CAN have impact on student scores and learning? I needed to create a framework that could explain the relation between how a team functions and its impact. I came up with the “Team Function Impact Matrix”. By viewing teams through 2 lenses (function AND impact) suddenly 4 types of teams emerged and I have made it my life's work to help leaders make sure their team collaboration lands in quadrant 1 so that teachers practice grows and teams reach the outcomes they need for students. I published the first iteration of my matrix in my 2013 bestselling book, The Skillful Team Leader, where I provide indicators for the 4 types of teams and common hurdles facing teacher leaders striving to get to quadrant 1. Since then, I have written more about this dual lens for looking at teams in my 2023 bestselling book, Intentional Moves, which holds nearly 150 strategies for helping your team get to quadrant 1. You can access the chapters for Free on Corwin website: 🎆 Chapter 2 "Don't Settle for High-Functioning Teams" (Intentional Moves. Corwin 2023.) 🎆 Chapter 3 "Alone Together: Overcoming Hurdles to Foster a High-Functioning, High-Impact Collaborative Team" (The Skillful Team Leader. Corwin, 2013.) ...and you can also view a short primer of me explaining my Team Function Impact Matrix on my Channel - Skillful Intentional Team Leadership. Perplexity to pay Snap $400M to power search in Snapchat | TechCrunch

Snap agrees to integrate Perplexity’s AI search engine into My AI, and Perplexity will pay $400 million in cash and equity. The feature is slated to appear in the app early next year. The arrangement grants Perplexity exposure to Snapchat’s 940 million users and lets Snap begin recognizing revenue from the deal in 2026. Snap announced the partnership while reporting Q3 2025 revenue of $1.51 billion, up 10%, and a narrowed loss of $104 million. The $400 million price tag highlights the premium AI firms will pay for built-in scale. For Snap, the agreement converts its My AI feature from a user perk into a material revenue source.

Experiments with Google Gemini
Experiments with Google Gemini
I help run Tuesday evening Zoom RUNEUAI meetings for a group of students from five universities across three time zones. Our 7 October session focused on effective prompting techniques and AI tools like Google Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. Several people encountered challenges accessing our shared Google Drive so we tried using Gemini.Google.Com in a browser and made better progress. We used Gemini to summarize content. One of our participants shared her experiences with Canva, highlighting several of its features for image creation.

Copy-and-Paste Now Exceeds File Transferring as the Top Corporate Data Exfiltration Vector - Slashdot
It is now more common for data to leave companies through copying and pasting than through file transfers and uploads, LayerX revealed in its Browser Security Report 2025. This shift is largely due to generative AI (genAI), with 77% of employees pasting data into AI prompts, and 32% of all copy-pastes from corporate accounts to non-corporate accounts occurring within genAI tools…Overall, 45% of employees actively use AI tools, with 67% of these tools being accessed via personal accounts and ChatGPT making up 92% of all use..." "With the rise of AI-driven browsers such as OpenAI's Atlas and Perplexity's Comet, governance of AI tools' access to corporate data becomes even more urgent, the LayerX report notes."

AI-Powered Toys Caught Telling 5-Year-Olds How to Find Knives and Start Fires With Matches
AI-Powered Toys Caught Telling 5-Year-Olds How to Find Knives and Start Fires With Matches

new research shows exactly how this fusion of kid’s toys and loquacious AI models can go horrifically wrong in the real world.

After testing three different toys powered by AI, researchers from the US Public Interest Research Group found that the playthings can easily verge into risky conversational territory for children, including telling them where to find knives in a kitchen and how to start a fire with matches. One of the AI toys even engaged in explicit discussions, offering extensive advice on sex positions and fetishes.

In the resulting report, the researchers warn that the integration of AI into toys opens up entire new avenues of risk

Largest study of its kind shows AI assistants misrepresent news content 45% of the time – regardless of language or territory.

Key findings:

45% of all AI answers had at least one significant issue. 31% of responses showed serious sourcing problems – missing, misleading, or incorrect attributions. 20% contained major accuracy issues, including hallucinated details and outdated information. Gemini performed worst with significant issues in 76% of responses, more than double the other assistants, largely due to its poor sourcing performance. According to the Reuters Institute’s Digital News Report 2025, 7% of total online news consumers use AI assistants to get their news, rising to 15% of under-25s.
