Sketcho Frenzy: The Basics of Visual Note-taking - YouTube
UPDATE: I see that a lot of people have been asking about how I made the video, I actually drew everything by hand first, turned them into vector graphics in...
Digital Note Taking Strategies That Deepen Student Thinking | MindShift | K
Debates over note taking tend to focus on whether devices are helpful or harmful, rather than on strategies students can use to make connections between ideas regardless of the format.
Taking Notes By Hand May Be Better Than Digitally, Researchers Say : NPR
Researchers Pam Mueller and Daniel M. Oppenheimer found that students remember more via taking notes longhand rather than on a laptop. It has to do with what happens when you're forced to slow down.

STEM Learning Must Go Beyond Memorizing Facts and Theories - The Edvocate
Spread the loveBy Steven Korte There is a growing global demand for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) professionals. At the same time, experts in science education are calling for students to become more “scientifically literate.” This call, however, is about more than filling jobs. A basic understanding of scientific concepts, processes, and ways of thinking is critical for students to succeed in the world of today and tomorrow. According to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s 2014 report on the results of the international PISA 2012 science assessment, “An understanding of science and technology is central to a […]
Are today's students impatient to solve problems without enough thought? Curtis Chandler says "brain stretchers" can get them to slow down and think critically.
Build a Lunar Lander - Technology Literacy, Critical Thinking/problem Solving Skills, Creative Thinking, Communication Skills, Collaboration Skills, Leadership Skills, Social Skills, Self-Monitoring And Self-Direction Skills, Project Management Skills
How Is A Spacecraft Engineered To Safely Land On The Moon? Exploration provides the foundation of our knowledge, technology, resources, and inspiration. It seeks answers to fundamental questions about our existence, responds to recent discoveries and puts in place revolutionary techniques and capabilities to inspire our nation, the world and the next generation. Landing safely and learning to live on the Moon or other planetary bodies would give us a head start in exploring Mars and other destinations in the solar system. In this project, students assume the role of NASA aerospace engineers, using the engineering design process to learn steps for designing, creating, and improving equipment. They design and build a shock-absorbing system that protect two marshmallow “astronauts” when they land. By doing so, they come to understand some of the challenges of lunar landings. This project is designed to have a structure compatible with implementing PBL in the classroom. NextLesson projects include certain key components that facilitate an authentic PBL experience.

Take Action To Make A Measurable Difference To An Energy, Environmental Or Food Problem Facing The World! Students take action from grassroots to global, on an energy, environment or food-related issue of their choice. By starting small with things they can actually do, they measure the difference they made, and scale it up, ultimately connecting it to global issues. They 'sell' their action and issue with an ad campaign, using their own pictures, clips and infographics as well as their online research. This manageable, playful project engages students and gives them the skills and initiative to take action and make a real difference. A great time to kick off the Take Action Project is on Earth Day – April 22nd. There will be all kinds of news around actions to take at this time of year and can sync up nicely with an Open House. This project is designed to have a structure compatible with implementing PBL in the classroom. NextLesson projects include certain key components that facilitate an authentic PBL experience.
Empowering Students Through Multimedia Storytelling
By telling their stories through multimedia, students develop skills in critical thinking, writing, research, and collaboration, as well as owning their learning and effecting change.
The Common Core demands students think critically while staying connected and diving into text, yet employers desire workers who can think creatively while connecting with people as they dive into …
Why Taking Notes By Hand Is Better Than Taking Notes by Laptop
We have been told that buying a laptop or a tablet for every student is a civil rights issue. Vendors of new technology might find it awkward to make such a claim for their products, but “ref…
